Jean-Paul Kauffmann was a French painter and printmaker, who worked in a variety of media, including lithography, etching, drypoint, engraving and aquatint. He was born in Paris in 1727 and died there in 1806. He studied art at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture and became a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
